Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach me at info@insideouttherapy.ca if you cannot find an answer to your question.

I work primarily with children aged 2-10 and their caregivers, with services tailored to the child's developmental stage and your family's needs.

No.

Depending on your child's age, needs, and treatment goals, therapy may involve your child individually, you and your child together, or parent-only sessions.

Parent involvement can look different from family to family.

My approach is parent-informed and parent-supportive, but the amount of direct parent involvement varies.

Some children benefit from having individual therapeutic sessions. Others benefit from more direct parent-child work.

We'll determine together what is most appropriate.

Yes.

In-home sessions are available for families within my service area (Cambridge and surrounding cities).

Working in the home can be particularly helpful when the challenges you're seeking support with happen primarily during everyday routines and interactions.

That depends on what we're working on.

An in-home session might involve child-focused therapy, parent coaching, parent-child interaction, observation of a particular routine, or a combination.

The purpose isn't to judge your home or your parenting.

It's to understand your child's experience within their real environment and provide support that fits your family.

You don't need to worry about having a perfectly tidy house (I don't), a perfectly regulated child (I don't), or a perfectly calm response to every situation (I don't).

You're seeking support because something is hard.

My role is to understand what is happening and work alongside you — not to judge you.

That's okay.

Children don't always walk into therapy ready to talk, play, or participate in the way adults expect.

I'll work with your child at their pace and consider what might be making participation difficult.

We can also adjust the approach and involve you more directly when appropriate.

Yes.

I work with children with ADHD, autism, sensory differences, and other developmental differences.

My approach focuses on understanding the child's individual needs rather than simply trying to make them behave in a more typical way.

I provide clinical guidance and support, but therapy isn't about giving you a universal list of parenting rules.

We'll consider your child's needs, your family, your values, and the specific situations you're navigating.

No.

You can seek support because something is difficult even if you don't have a diagnosis or aren't sure what is going on.

The frequency of sessions depends on your child's needs, your goals, and the type of support we're providing.

We'll discuss what makes sense during the initial assessment.

Yes.

Virtual parent sessions are available when appropriate, and can be particularly useful for parent coaching, consultation, and ongoing support.

My current availability is during weekday daytime hours. If daytime appointments work for your family, I'd love to discuss whether my services are a good fit.

Yes.

Parent coaching and consultation can be an important part of therapy, and there are times when meeting with a parent without the child present is the most useful way to support the family.

The first appointment is an opportunity for us to understand what has been happening, learn about your child and family, discuss your goals, and determine whether my approach is a good fit.

You don't need to prepare a perfect summary.

Just come ready to tell me what has been hard and what you hope could be different.

That's completely okay.

You don't need to choose between child therapy, parent coaching, in-home therapy, or parent-child work before contacting me.

We'll talk about what's happening and determine what approach makes the most sense.

Therapy is an investment in your family, and I want you to know what to expect before getting started.
