Parent-involved therapy for ADHD/ADD

Supporting regulation, reducing conflict, and building skills—together

Children with ADHD often experience challenges with emotional regulation, impulse control, transitions, and sustained attention. These challenges can lead to frequent conflict, emotional overwhelm, and a sense that “nothing works.”

What looks like defiance or oppositional behaviour is often a sign of lagging skills, nervous system dysregulation, or chronic stress. Therapy focuses on understanding these patterns and supporting both children and parents in responding more effectively.

Parent involvement is essential. When parents are supported to shift expectations, responses, and structure, children experience less conflict and more success.

Therapeutic Approach

I use a developmentally-informed, attachment-based approach, drawing from:

  • Child-Centred Play Therapy (CCPT) to support emotional expression and self-esteem

  • Filial Therapy to strengthen the parent-child relationship and reduce power struggles

  • AutPlay-informed interventions, adapted to support regulation, emotional awareness, and social understanding through play and structure

  • Collaborative and Proactive Solutions (CPS) to address lagging skills, reduce explosions, and build problem-solving capacity

The focus is not on compliance, but on helping children develop the skills they are missing—while supporting parents to respond with clarity, empathy, and consistency.
